The Economy and Our Grantmaking

Many nonprofits in Wyoming face difficult times with the economic downturn and are focusing on immediate needs. While short-term survival is imperative, we also need to keep our eyes on our long-term goals, and maintain our ability to address the problems that will remain after the economy recovers.

Like other endowed funds, our assets have diminished with the downturn in the stock market. To meet these challenging circumstances the WyWF has made two fiscally responsible decisions. First, we have reduced our own operating budget by 20%. Second, the Board of the Wyoming Women's Foundation has decided not to issue a Request for Proposal for 2009.

The WyWF will be focusing on two on-going initiatives:
• the WAGE Project, which helps women entering or returning to the workforce to understand the wage gap and what they can do about it personally by benchmarking for a competitive wage or salary and negotiating for their compensation package.
• our first advocacy project; educating business and legislative leaders regarding the economic affect on Wyoming’s women and communities when women cannot work to their full potential due to lack of quality, affordable childcare.

We will also work with our grantee partners to find ways of leveraging our creative capital and assist our nonprofit partners in withstanding these current economic hardships and continue their vital work long into the future.

The Wyoming Women’s Foundation solicits a Request for Proposal from Wyoming-based organizations that serve and support women and girls.

To have your organization’s name added to the mailing list to receive a Request for Proposal send the mailing address for your organization to info@WYWF.org.

The Wyoming Women’s Foundation will only fund organizations that have a current tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service under Section 501 (c) (3). Projects without this status may be considered for a grant through an arrangement with a fiscal agent with a 501 (c) (3) sponsorship.

Following proposal review, organizations will be selected to receive a site visit or in-depth telephone interview by Wyoming Women’s Foundation board members and/or staff. Site visits and interviews will be completed by October and selected grantees will be notified in November.

Proposals that address economic self-sufficiency and access to opportunities for women and girls through systems change are especially welcome. The Wyoming Women’s Foundation realizes the impact continuing education, job training and placement, affordable childcare, wage inequity and teen pregnancy can have on economic self-sufficiency and widening opportunities for women and girls. Because we recognize the significance of these issues, proposals incorporating positive changes to current systems influencing these issues will receive special consideration.

The Foundation realizes the value of diverse constituencies collaborating to address systemic problems that directly affect women and girls in Wyoming.
