Donation in Memory of Alice Ackerman

Anne HouleA donation was recently made to the Wyoming Women's Foundation in memory of an extraordinary Wyoming woman, Alice Reynolds Ackerman. Alice died December 30, 2007 at age 90 in Newcastle, WY.

Following is an excerpt from the donation letter. "She grew up in northeastern Wyoming on a ranch. As a little girl she was the best hand they had. When she married Everett Ackerman, they lived in Upton and raised two boys, John (an international lawyer in Houston, TX) and Bill (an Ohio State professor). Alice was the first female president of a bank in Wyoming, grew the bank, and served on many community boards in Weston County. Two books came to mind at her funeral service: True Grit and The Perfect Woman. Those titles describe this wonderful Wyoming woman."

If you would like to donate in memory of a special woman that has impressed or influenced your life, please contact our office by phone 307-721-8300, by email info@wywf.org, or by mail 313 S 3rd St., Laramie, WY 82070.

Jackson Event a Success

Anne HouleThe Wyoming Women's Foundation hosted an informal dinner at the Bar BC Ranch in Jackson, WY on June 6th. Laura Ladd from the Women's Foundation Board spoke briefly about Mary Mead as the event was at Mary's former home.  Mary, a local rancher exemplified the opportunities the Wyoming Women's Foundation is working to provide to all Wyoming women.  Our conversation evolved into what the WyWF is doing now to promote and work toward self sufficiency for all Wyoming's women and girls such as bringing the WAGE project to Wyoming and providing grant money to organizations like Climb Wyoming and the Latino Resource Center.  We had a lively discussion around wage equity with an impromptu raffle of a movie pass to the showing of the documentary film produced by the Equipoise Fund, Don't Fence Me In. The film features and celebrates women and girls in Wyoming. Thanks to all who attended and participated.

Anne HouleIt is finally summer in Wyoming!  Our flowers are blooming and we at the women's foundation are getting ready to send out our annual Request for Proposal.  Our giving priorities for this year's RFP will be job opportunities/education and training as well as women and girls leadership, empowerment and mentorship.  If you are interested in learning more about our granting opportunities, do not hesitate to give us a call or drop us an email.  Enjoy these summer days.
