Happy Women's History Month! Why do you celebrate?
Wyoming Women's Foundation: Helping women create their futures so they can celebrate their past.
March is Women's History Month and we would like to share with you the history of the Wyoming Women's Foundation and why we celebrate its past, present, and future.
Our past: The Wyoming Women's Foundation was established in 1999 with a challenge grant from the Chambers Family Fund to the Wyoming Community Foundation. Merle Chambers' priority was to build a permanent resource for women and girls in Wyoming, addressing economic self-sufficiency and access to opportunities. Since the year 2000, the Wyoming Women's Foundation has granted over half a million dollars to over 80 different projects throughout the state.
Our present: In 2008 we granted over $75,000 to 15 different organizations. We supported an innovative mentoring program in Teton County, programs that help single mothers gain needed employment skills, a program that helps women help themselves by learning lobbying skills, among others (go to our website for a full list of grantees and their projects). This month we feature an article about the recent success of one of our grantees, the Wyoming Family Home Ownership Project. We also include a feature about a couple invested in Wyoming, the Stone family.
Our Future: The Wyoming Women's Foundation is looking forward to our next request for grant proposals; our RFP will be available July 1st. Everyday we work toward providing opportunities for women and girls to thrive and prosper. Richelle
