Happy VDAY! How are you going to spread the love?

Wyoming Women's Foundation: Spreading the love since 1999
The month of love is upon us!  February is the herald of a coming month dedicated to celebrating and loving women and all the wonderful contributions we make to the world.

In Jackson Hole, women are spreading the love by uniting to host the Jackson 2009 VDAY campaign February 19-21, 2009.  By participating in this project, Jackson will be joining a larger international community that fights to bring awareness and aid to an issue that is often met with embarrassment and shame by the very victims who suffer from it: domestic violence.  To learn more about this campaign please check out our feature article on the project.  Or, you can check out the VDAY Web site at http://www.vday.org.  If you would like to share your love in Jackson and around the world, please contact the campaign co-chair Nicki Davis at vdayjh2009@live.com.

The Wyoming Women's Foundation welcomes two new members to our ranks to help bring our message to more people.  Please welcome Hanna Bush and Tara Busch to our staff and check out their bio's.

Don't forget!  Next month is Women's History month and March 8th is International Women's Day.  How do you plan to celebrate?  There are several ways to spread awareness and love in your community and honor the women around you.  Consider volunteering at a local organization in your community that helps women and girls, such as the Converse County Coalition Against Family Violence, Girls Actively Participating or Habitat for Humanity.  What about a card for that wonderful mother, daughter, sister or friend in your life?  Or think about ways you can organize local women in your community by hosting parties to raise awareness about issues in your community or internationally.  For great party ideas, check out The Global Fund for Women's Web site and be creative!  No time, but still want to do something positive for women?  Consider supporting the Wyoming Women's Foundation.  Improving communities by empowering women and girls is only a click away.  Let us know how you chose to celebrate this special day by emailing Katie@wycf.org ,and we might feature your story and/or organization in our next issue!

The Wyoming Women's Foundation is dedicated to creating opportunities for women and girls in Wyoming.  That is precisely why we at the foundation are excited about Jackson Hole women spreading the love on VDay.

Nicki Davis, along with dozens of women in Jackson Hole and the Teton Valley area, have joined forces with the VDAY 2009 International Campaign in an effort to raise awareness and money to end violence against Teton Valley women and girls.

Happy Valentine's Day!  The Wyoming Women's Foundation is off to a great start with our annual friendraiser luncheon in Cheyenne.  Our luncheon was attended by over 150 people.  Seeing old friends and meeting new ones, taking the opportunity to celebrate Wyoming's women.  Lynne Boomgaarden was our keynote speaker this year with the topic, your life as a work of art. Lynne reminded us of the impact our lives have on our communities and the necessity to make the most of opportunities given, reminding us that they rarely come at convenient times.  Thanks to all who attended and made the event a success.  We were able to acknowledge three of our grantees from South East Wyoming; The Wyoming Family Home Ownership Project, CLIMB Wyoming and Laramie County Habitat for Humanity.  Thank you to these organizations for all their hard work on behalf of Wyoming's communities.   Richelle
