| Dear Katie, |
| Go RED for Equal Pay Day! Wear red on April 20th and raise awareness of the day that women "get out of the red." |
| April 20th is Equal Pay Day |
Governor Freudenthal has proclaimed Tuesday, April 20, 2010 Equal Pay Day in Wyoming. Read the proclamation
here. On this day thousands of women and men from across the United States will join in a national day of action against unequal pay. April represents the month in the new year that a woman must work in order to earn the wages paid to a man by the end of the previous year. On a national level, women are paid only 78 cents for every dollar a man is paid, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In Wyoming women make 63 cents for every dollar. This is the largest gender wage disparity in the United States.
You can make a difference. This year, the Wyoming Women's Foundation is calling for anyone who wants to show their support for equal pay to donate $.37, $3.70, $37, $370 or $3,700 on Facebook in recognition of the $.37 LESS per dollar women are making compared to men in the state. Help us raise awareness and help us help the women of Wyoming make up the wage difference between men and women in our state. We've got farther to go than any other state in the nation.

April is also National Financial Literacy Month. Financial literacy and equal pay go hand-in-hand: it is hard to accomplish one without the other. This month we highlight our past partner program, Financial Solutions of Wyoming, and their financial literacy program, Credit When Credit is Due,as an excellent example of a program that successfully encouraged financial literacy for women. |
