Reason For Celebration:  Educated Women!

...a good education is another name for happiness.  -Ann Plato
Dear Supporter,
Hooray!  Women are now just as likely as men to have completed college and are virtually equal in earning advanced degrees, part of an accelerating trend of educational gains (US Census).  Furthermore, female 20 some-things with a college degree are out earning their male counterparts.   This news magnifies the power of an education.  We must continue to iterate, among both females and males, that education brings freedom and power.  So what is left to be done?  Continuing to raise awareness where inequalities and discrimination exist and take action when needed.  Women need to learn how to negotiate for a competitive wage based on their education and experience.  It is also paramount that we prioritize quality, affordable childcare which will enable women to attain an education and/or be a strong part of the workforce. By working towards these goals, Wyoming's workplaces can be places of equality.
Create Self-Sufficiency: Support Education
College is a pricey endeavor for many students, even those who don't run into emergency situations.  So when a woman in a low income situation is faced with the reality that she must cover the cost of an emergency and risk losing the opportunity for higher education, her future seems suddenly bleak.
Thankfully, the Sheridan College Transitional Services Program has worked to provide multi-faceted  assistance to low income women, allowing them to address their emergencies without having to compromise their education.  In 2005 WYWF supported SCTS in their mission by granting them funds which helped them to continue providing services to low income college students.  More

Women Forced to Choose?

  10 year celbration

New research suggests that discrimination may not play as much a part in the wage gap as once thought.  Women are proving to be equal players in education and in the workforce until a certain stage.  That stage is motherhood, meaning the choice that has plagued women for decades has not disappeared: advance a career or be a mom.   More
