Awareness

breast cancer domestic violence awareness  "Patience and perseverance surmount every difficulty." -Anonymous
Dear Micah,
September is Domestic Violence Awareness month. The Wyoming Women's Foundation realizes that in order for a woman to be successful, she must be safe. Statistics surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault are startling:

-Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between ages 15 and 44 in the United States - more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.(Uniform Crime Reports, Federal Bureau of Investigation, 1991)

-According to a report funded by the Department of Justice, roughly one in five women who attend college will become the victim of a rape or an attempted rape by the time she graduates.

And as much as we want to believe this sort of thing doesn't happen in Wyoming, it does.  This past year a sexual assault case was reported on the University of Wyoming campus that highlighted the need for education on the matter and the Wyoming Women's Foundation got involved. More

Why YOU Must Be the Nosy Neighbor

Sexual Assault on Campuses

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

One in eight  women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.  Chances are you already know someone-  your mom, sister, cousin, friend, or perhaps even you.  It is difficult to watch someone go through treatment and fight to stay the vibrant, healthy person they once were. Breast cancer takes a toll- physically, emotionally and even financially.  But there is hope!

Since 1990 there has been a steady decrease in breast cancer deaths.  And when breast cancer is detected early, the five year survival rate is 98%.

With increased efforts toward research, even larger strides can be made in the fight against breast cancer!  WYWF encourages you to learn more and get involved.
