| Dear Supporter, |
Thanksgiving is right around the corner and most all of us are quick to recognize the importance of our families, friends, and our health when giving thanks. But often we don't take the time to look beyond our immediate lives to seek out other aspects of the world to be thankful for.
This past Saturday, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and political activist who has worked for democracy in Myanmar, a country ruled by an authoritarian military junta known partly for human rights violations, was released after spending the better part of the past two decades under house arrest (more).
In 1990 Suu Kyi overwhelmingly won Myanmar's elections, but results were thrown out by Myanmar's military, and since then, the junta has worked to keep her influence low while building up their own agenda. (more)
But on Saturday, Suu Kyi was released and much of Myanmar rejoiced. Even as the junta continues to build their agenda, her freedom provides a glimmer of hope for those in Myanmar. The fight for democracy will not come easy, but there is a hope that her release will provide a renewed energy.
This Thanksgiving, lets look beyond ourselves to people like Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who are peacefully fighting for human rights and freedom, and lets thank them for what they are providing to the world.

Fabulous Wyoming Women!
|
|

The much anticipated Women to Watch website is ready to go!
The website serves as a storehouse of movers and shakers across the state willing to share their time and talents with others. Our website will serve as a central location where women can be found to serve as speakers, board members, committee members, or simply as resources for information, to name a few possibilities.
If you know someone who you feel would be a great candidate, please nominate them here.

| Domestic Abuse |
|
While October is officially over, marking the end of domestic violence awareness month, we must remember this issue all year round.
A recent Alaskan survey sheds light on sexual assault and domestic violence in AK stating that nearly 59% of women have been victims to some form of abuse. And President Obama has spoken out on the evils of domestic violence in our own country and has called for more service for women and children. more

Recognizing domestic violence as an important issue, in 2008, the Wyoming Women's Foundation granted $4,600 to the Converse County Coalition Against Domestic Violence in order to support its efforts at increasing literacy and financial empowerment for women. Because domestic violence is often tied to financial dependency upon a partner, it is important for us to support efforts towards women's financial stability. More
