The Wyoming Women's Foundation has been lucky enough to have an international guest this month: Homa Rising. Homa began her national tour in New York, and Wyoming is now her second stop!
She has tasted the amazing veggies at the Laramie Farmer's Market, taken the driver's seat on a pink John Deere tractor at Jubilee Days, hiked our beautiful Wyoming mountains and has plans to visit Jackson! Although these are all exciting adventures, Homa's mission is to raise awareness of Afghan widows.
The Nadera Project, launched by Rising International, was created to support Afghan widows through sales of handmade items made by them. A 2008 report estimated that there are over 4 million widows living in Afghanistan, and of those, 80% are illiterate with limited opportunities for employment.
WYWF supports economic self-sufficiency for women, and although our focus is Wyoming, we know it is important to raise awareness of the struggles of women throughout the world. We recognize that by giving women opportunities, and supporting education, ALL women can have self worth and self-sufficiency!

WYWF Welcomes New Wyoming Community Foundation President
|
|
| New Wyoming Community Foundation President, Craig Showalter |
As a component fund of the Wyoming Community Foundation (WYCF), the Wyoming Women's Foundation is pleased to announce that Craig R. Showalter has been chosen the new president of WYCF. Showalter will begin with the Community Foundation August 1, according to board chair, Arne O. Jorgensen. Showalter succeeds George Gault who has retired.
Jorgensen noted that Showalter, a native of North Dakota who has a love for the outdoors, comes to the WYCF with a broad spectrum of experiences in the nonprofit or voluntary sector, including a laudable track record in asset-building.
Showalter is currently president of the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of Wyoming, where he has led the development and implementation of a major donor program.
"After a deliberate search that attracted close to eighty applicants, board members and I are convinced that Craig is the right choice to lead the organization as we strive to meet our programmatic and asset-development goals for the WYCF's 25th Anniversary in 2014," Jorgensen said. "We are confident that Craig has the energy, vision, integrity, knowledge and instincts needed for us to achieve those goals for the benefit of Wyoming people and Wyoming communities." Jorgensen added.
Established in 1989, the Wyoming Community Foundation with its affiliates attracts charitable assets, primarily endowments, invests those assets, and then makes grants and sponsors programs from earnings based on donors' intentions. Additional information about WYCF can be found at www.wycf.org or by calling 307-721-8300.

WYWF's Request for Proposals
|
|
Summer time in Wyoming is always a fantastic time! The sun is out, the trails are clear (well most of them) and we get to spend time with family and friends. It is an especially exciting time for WYWF because we send out our annual Request for Proposals! We get the opportunity to see what organizations around Wyoming are doing to support economic self-sufficiency for women and opportunities for girls.
Last year we were able to grant to mentoring organizations whose focus is women and girls. We granted to an organization that gives girls the chance to recognize the impact of bullying by way of theatre and to another that reaches out to Wyoming's Latina population. We gave to organizations that give women an opportunity to earn a self-sufficient wage and to a group that helps low income families earn their first home. And your donations helped us do this!
If you are a nonprofit that works toward economic self-sufficiency of women and opportunities for girls, or if you know an organization that does, check out our RFP. Or click here for complete instructions.
