| Dear Micah, |
In 1870, nearly one hundred years after our nation declared its freedom from England, Louisa Ann Swain cast the first female vote for the United States, in Laramie, Wyoming. Fifty years later, in 1920, with the passing of the 19th Amendment, women's entitlement to vote was made official. In 2008 theEquality State Policy Center was awarded a $6,500 grant from the WYWF to continue the tradition of women in politics. The group implemented a training for effective lobbying by and for women in order to help de-mystify the political process, exemplifying the importance of the Education and Training spoke of the Self Sufficiency Wheel. This month we celebrate the freedom of those fortunate to experience it, and recognize that for many, freedom is a continuing struggle. |
