August is here which means summer is coming to a close. Our Wyoming nights are cooling off and crisp autumn days lie ahead.
Here in Laramie, a new energy can be felt. The quiet, calm town we enjoyed over the summer is now bustling. University of Wyoming students have returned, ready to learn and succeed!
This gets us excited here at the Wyoming Women's Foundation because we know that earning a college degree ups your chances of earning a livable wage. Our excitement is justified as we see more data showing that women are attending and graduating college at a rate higher than ever before! And although Wyoming has the largest wage gap in the nation at 67%, we aren't doing too shabby when it comes to women attending college. More

Women to Watch Focus:
New WYWF Board Member, Nita Unhoch
|
|
The Wyoming Women's Foundation is thrilled to introduce you to
Women to Watch member and WYWF board member Nita Unhoch. Nita joined WYWF early this year and has proven to be an asset to our organization. When asked why she chose to get involved with WYWF she said, "I believe in the advancement of women. We need women and men - a gender balance to achieve equality in our government and communities."
Nita's journey to advance her own career and education was not as typical as some. "I was 25 years old before I stepped in to a college environment." states Unhoch. "I was married with two children, a husband and a mortgage. I was 54 years old when I got my Doctorate. My education was, and still is, a "family effort." More

Wyoming Women's Foundation's Grant Proposal Deadline: September 1, 2011
|
|
The deadline for grant proposals is quickly approaching! WYWF is eager to see how we can support the exciting work of nonprofits around Wyoming who are working to support economic self-sufficiency for women and opportunities for girls.
Last year we were able to grant to mentoring organizations whose focus is women and girls. We granted to an organization that gives girls the chance to recognize the impact of bullying by way of theatre and to another that reaches out to Wyoming's Latina population. We gave to organizations that give women an opportunity to earn a self-sufficient wage and to a group that helps low income families earn their first home. And your donations helped us do this!
If you are a nonprofit that works toward economic self-sufficiency of women and opportunities for girls, or if you know an organization that does, check out our RFP. Or click here for complete instructions.
