| Dear Supporter, |
| Its prime-time for the primaries! Let getting to the polls today be your way of thanking the pioneers who, ninety years ago, fought to allow women the right to vote. Voting is an opportunity to be part of the democratic process, to be heard, and to be counted. Today's primary elections look quite different from those ninety years ago. We are now seeing larger representation of female candidates, and people are beginning to realize that "gender issues," such as the wage gap, don't just affect women, they affect everyone. Male and female candidates are recognizing the importance of gendered issues and are making campaign statements reflecting their relevance. The Wyoming Women's Foundation published a Legislative Watch for the 2010 legislative session and will do so for the 2011 session. The legislative watch outlined bills that had the potential to impact the lives of women and girls, this service was to provide a quick glance at relevant bills and to track their process through the legislative system. Take the time to enjoy and participate in your right to vote. And thank women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton when you mark your ballot. |
| Affecting Policy Making In Wyoming |
As individuals, it sometimes feels as if we have very little impact on the policy making that goes on in government. The Equality State Policy Center works to de-mystify the process and give us the tools to make change happen. In 2008 WYWF granted The Equality State Policy Center funds to allow them to focus on educating historically under served populations in the democratic process. Their program, "Speaking to Power: Engaging Women as Lobbyists" trained women to lobby for issues important to them and their families. |
