2011 Grant Recipients
Bright Futures Mentoring, Cody $2,500
Bright Futures Mentoring Program is a one-to-one mentoring program based on the work of the National Mentoring Partnership. The program targets children ages 5 to 17 and the Self Esteem program focuses on young girls who partner with women from the community to tackle issues they may be facing.
CLIMB Wyoming, Statewide $5,000
The CLIMB Wyoming Program trains and places low-income single mothers into careers that allow them to successfully support their families. These single mothers are regularly caught in a day-to-day struggle to provide for themselves and their children with limited prospects for a better future. Our funds will go towards expanding the CLIMB programs in Casper and Cheyenne.
Converse County Coalition Against Violence $2,000
Converse County Coalition Against Violence recognizes that “financial abuse is common in families where domestic violence occurs.” CCCAV will provide financial literacy training to women and high school aged girls in order to empower and help break this cycle.
COMEA House and Resource Center, Cheyenne $5,000
COMEA’s culinary training program works to “close the revolving door of homelessness and help individuals and families regain self-sufficiency.” The program provides participants essential culinary skills and basic job skills in order to help them obtain a position in the culinary profession.
Equality State Policy Center, Statewide $7,500
Funds given to ESPC will be used to help organize and implement VOTE projects and citizen lobbyist trainings in communities throughout Wyoming. Both programs encourage citizen participation and leadership.
Evanston Child Development Center/Children's Learning Foundation $10,800
Evanston Child Development Center will use granted funds to provide educational training to its employees, the majority of whom are female. This training will not only benefit the children being taught, but will also allow employees a stipend and increase in salary upon completion.
Sublette County 4-H STEM Fair $3,750
Sublette County 4-H, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Fair creates an afterschool program that empowers and challenges young women and girls through STEM explorations. The program utilizes high school girls and women who work in STEM based careers to assist elementary aged students in developing and creating science projects.
Teton Literacy Center $6,000
Funds granted to Teton Literacy’s “Smart Start” program, will provide mothers the educational opportunity to explore early literacy techniques. Providing this opportunity gives mother’s the chance to help create the foundation for their child’s learning and success while building confidence.
Wyoming Family Home Ownership Program, Cheyenne & Laramie $5,000
Since 2007, WYFHOP has created a unique, volunteer, community partnership that helps to provide low-income families, which are disproportionately female-headed, in Laramie and Cheyenne the opportunity to achieve first-time home ownership. Over a five year period families will receive financial education and mentoring courses in order to achieve this goal.
Wyoming Nurses Association & WCNHCP, Statewide $10,000
WNA’s Wyoming Nurse Leadership Institute, works to provide leadership training to nursing professionals. “Many nursing managers are promoted into positions of authority as skilled nurses, but with little or no management orientation.” Our funds will support this training in order to help create and maintain more female leaders in the medical profession.
Wyoming Women’s Business Center, Statewide $2,500
WWBC works with women and other under-represented individuals to start or expand small businesses. WWBC is a fantastic resource for gaining the tools to start and sustain a successful business. Funds provided by WYWF will go toward hosting a virtual state-wide conference to share ideas and expertise.
