The Wyoming Women's Foundation announces the launch of a new project designed to help raise awareness of the barriers women face in achieving economic self-sufficiency in Wyoming.
We are seeking to learn about the life of workers who earn minimum wage in Wyoming. Are you earning minimum wage? (The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour). What kind of job do you have? Are you able to make ends meet with that wage? How? We will be asking how your wage impacts your life and that of your family.
We will also specifically be looking for information from Wyomingites who rely on tipped wages. Are your tipped wages enough to get you by and are you aware of the tipped offset? We encourage you to check the WYWF facebook page to share your story. If you would prefer your information remains anonymous and not posted publicly, please email us at sarah@wywf.org or call 307-250-0479. Your information will be kept confidential, unless you agree to let us share your story.
Please join the conversation! We want to hear from you so that we can maximize the number of women in Wyoming that have achieved economic self-sufficiency.

Given this year's election excitement, It is clear that women are beginning to make their way in the political arena. But taking a closer look also makes it clear we have a long way to go.
A recent article by The NY Times regarding election results notes that, "The number of women in Congress will stay at the same level as it is currently when the incoming class is sworn in in January: a total of 90, with 17 in the 100-member Senate and 73 in the 435-seat House." The article goes on to note that these numbers seem especially discouraging since "female registered voters outnumber male..."
And according to the Wyoming Women's Legislative Caucus (WWLC) "the Equality State has a long way to go to reach the 30% "tipping point" experts say is necessary to effectively address gender issues in campaigns and in politics. Women represent just 18% of the Wyoming State Legislature, and 20% of elected state officials." These numbers tell us that the female constituent is under-represented in government.
Here is the good news: There are amazing programs out there; programs like AAUW's Running Start , which supports and educates women running for office at the college level, and Leap into Leadership, put on by WWLC, which encourages women to run for office and take on leadership roles professionally and personally.

The much anticipated Women to Watch website is up and running!
The website serves as a storehouse of movers and shakers across the state willing to share their time and talents with others. This new website will serve as a central location where women can be found to serve as speakers, board members, committee members, or simply as resources for information, to name a few possibilities.
If you know someone who you feel would be a great candidate, please nominate them here.
